Saturday 26th December

Showery: drove to the valley of Sant’ Onofria with Scott, the ground was very wet, I saw a good many ducks and had a shot at a Bittern, as I was stealing after some wild fowl, I walked into a deep hole full of water, & wet my gun and all my ammunition, as I was carrying about six pounds of shot I was very glad to get out at all.  Scott missed some Snipes and a Woodcock & I killed one Snipe.  Bent the sails of the Vampire, & measured the chain for the moorings.  Very blowy, sirocco wind with rain.
